Wondering whether to combine finances after saying ‘I do’? Get tips on budgeting, joint accounts, and achieving your financial goals in married life.
Estate planning: no-one likes to think about it, but it’s one of the most important things you can do for your loved ones. Knowing that your wishes will be carried out after your death is also a gift to yourself – you’ll receive peace of mind.
Poole Advisory Principal Financial Adviser Anthony Poole sat down with Anthony Fondacaro from Legacy Wills and Estates for a frank, honest conversation about estate planning and why it’s important.
The first in our video series covers just who needs estate planning – and we have a pretty succinct answer for you.
As we state over on our estate planning services page:
“The estate planning process is important for everyone. It doesn’t matter how little or how much money you have.”

Transcript: Anthony Poole, Principal Advisor at Pool Advisory, talks estate planning with Anthony Fondacaro, Principal Lawyer at Legacy Wills and Estates.
Anthony Poole: Welcome. It’s Anthony Poole from Pool Advisory, and I’m here and joined today by Anthony Fondercaro, Principal at Legacy Wills and Estates.
Welcome, mate.
Anthony Fondacaro: Thank you.
Anthony Poole: Over the course of our journey with our clients, we help them to navigate a path to living their best life, protecting their wealth, but also taking more of a holistic view in leaving a legacy for their children or beneficiaries.
Anthony Fondacaro: Anyone who’s over the age of 18 should have a will, if I’m really honest.
Anthony Poole: I agree with you. People come and say, “I haven’t got anything. I haven’t got enough money, I’m young, I’m healthy. I’m not gonna die!”
Anthony Fondacaro: And my usual question to that response is, “Have you got superannuation? Are you working?”
Superannuation is a whole different beast when it comes to estate planning, because you can say in your will, “I want my super to go to X, Y, or Z.” But, if you don’t look at the particular rules that apply to each particular super fund, then you may not be able to do that. Then what you put in your will is not going to be valid.

In summary, people of all ages, in all stages of their career and life journey, will benefit from seeing a financial planner to review what will happen to their assets in case the unexpected happens. Setting up a will and the other documentation that goes with it can help to lessen the legal burden for surviving family members – even if you don’t think you’ll have much to leave them!
After all, it will already be a difficult time – so it will be a gift to minimise the administrative burden and unnecessary expense.
